The Vent Problem Behind Most 'No Heat' Dryer Calls
By Erik Jacobson, Jackpot Appliance Repair · Updated October 18, 2026
Most dryers that stop heating have a blown thermal fuse, and the fuse usually blows because a clogged vent made the dryer overheat. Replace the fuse without clearing the vent and it will blow again.
Why the vent matters
A dryer pushes hot, wet air out through the vent. When lint builds up, heat stays in the drum. The high-limit thermostat and thermal fuse are there to stop a fire, so they trip.
Quick checks you can do
Run the dryer and feel the airflow at the outside vent hood. It should be strong. Clean the lint screen every load. If clothes take two or three cycles, the vent is probably restricted.
What we check
On every dryer call we test the fuse, element or igniter, and the airflow. Long vent runs in Las Vegas homes clog faster, especially through the roof.
Safety
A burning smell means stop using the dryer and call. Lint is very flammable.
